Musawa Salutes D’Tigeress on Record- Breaking Afrobasket Championship Win

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, on their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.

The D’Tigress made history by winning the continental title for an unprecedented fifth consecutive time, defeating Mali 78–64 in a thrilling final held at the Palais de Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Minister Musawa, who watched the final live alongside the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, commended the team for their stellar performance and unwavering commitment.“

” I am thrilled to see the D’Tigress bring home the Afrobasket trophy for a record-breaking fifth consecutive time! Their victory is a testament to the power of determination, teamwork, and Nigerian excellence,” the Minister said.

She noted that the D’Tigress’ triumph is not only a milestone for Nigerian sports but also a beacon of inspiration for millions of young athletes, especially young women, across the country.

“This achievement will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of Nigerian athletes to dream big and pursue excellence. I congratulate each member of the team, their coaches, and everyone who supported them on this remarkable journey. The Federal Government looks forward to celebrating them upon their return.”

In recognition of their achievement, the D’Tigress will be hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
