When Communication Experts Meet to Promote Statistical Literacy in Nigeria


Chief Isiaq Ajibola, former Managing Director of Daily Trust Newspaper and Founder of CBD Media Edge Communications Limited, has paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/CEO of S. J Communication Services Limited, Mr. Sunday Joel Ichedi, at his office in Garki, Abuja. Mr. Ichedi is also the former Director of Communication and Public Relations at the National Bureau of Statistics.

The visit was aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration between the two media organizations, with a particular focus on promoting statistical literacy and enhancing the effective communication of statistical data.

During the meeting, Chief Ajibola highlighted the critical role of statistics in national development. He stressed the need to educate the public on how to understand, interpret, and apply statistical information in everyday decision-making, noting that making statistics accessible and user-friendly is essential to fostering a data-driven culture in Nigeria.

“The power of statistics lies in its ability to inform decisions that improve lives. Our goal is to make statistical information clearer and more useful for all Nigerians,” Chief Ajibola said.

The proposed partnership aims to leverage the combined expertise and resources of both organizations to improve how statistical information is communicated—making it more engaging, understandable, and impactful for diverse audiences.

Both parties expressed optimism that the collaboration will meaningfully contribute to enhancing public understanding of data and promoting evidence-based decision-making across sectors
