In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has commenced the training of selected members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to drive the National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment across all 8,812 political wards in Nigeria.
This initiative is aimed at accelerating the enrolment and issuance of NIN to all Nigerians and legal residents, with a special focus on underserved and previously unreachable areas.
So far, NIMC has successfully enrolled and issued NIN to over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents. The Ward Enrolment Initiative marks a significant milestone in expanding the reach of identity services nationwide by leveraging the presence of corps members across communities.
As part of this initiative, the selected corps members are currently undergoing intensive training to prepare them for deployment to their designated wards. The initiative especially targets children below the age of 16 and others who may not have had easy access to enrolment centres in the past.
Speaking on the development, the Director General/CEO of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support of President Tinubu towards achieving the commission’s mandate. She also commended the commitment of the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, for his collaborative efforts in mobilising the corps members for national service through identity enrolment.
Dr. Coker-Odusote further extended her gratitude to the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, for his support and cooperation in the successful rollout of the Ward Enrolment Initiative.
This partnership is a strategic move to take NIN enrolment closer to the people, ensuring inclusive access to foundational identity for all Nigerians, irrespective of location.
