Gwagwalada community residents seek infrastructural development

Agency report

Some residents of Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, have appealed to the FCT Administration to provide more infrastructure to enhance the livelihood of community dwellers.

The residents made the appeal in separate interviews on Saturday in Abuja.

They said the FCT Administration should pay more attention to the development of rural areas in areas of healthcare system, water, and education among others.

Mrs Aisha Zubairu, a resident of Paiko Kore community, said although there was ongoing road construction by the FCT administration in the community, people are in dire need of potable water in the area.

She said that it was always difficult to get clean water especially during the dry season, as most people in the community rely on water vendors (mai ruwa) for daily supply.

“Clean water is one of our biggest challenge in this community, we depend on Mai ruwa or rivers.

“During the dry season, even the rivers which is not clean will dry up, and the few boreholes we depend on is not sufficient, this makes life difficult in community.

“We are begging the FCT administration to look into extending water board to this community, since there is water board in Gwagwalada”, she pleaded.

Mr Stanley Adakole, a businessman, said the ongoing road construction in Gwagwalada was not noticable, since there were a lot of bad roads in the council that needed urgent intervention.

Adakole said Gwagwalada has bad roads, adding that government should pay more attention on infrastructure development in the area councils.

“Constructing just one road will not make any significant change as regards how deplorable the roads in Gwagwalada are.

“Take for instance, the Gwagwalada market road, the road has been under construction for years.

“Now that we are in rainy season, the road is not passable, people take alternative route to access the market.

”The FCT administration should go beyond rehabilitating one road and do more”, he said.

Mrs Eunice Adewale, a tailor, said the health sector should be put into consideration as facilities in most government hospitals were no longer functional.

“Government hospital such as University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) needs state of the art facility being the only teaching hospital in the territory.

“But it is not so, most times when you go there, you hear things like no bed space, X-ray machine not working, no doctor and many others.

“They need to perform better, government should put those in the lower class into consideration because we are also citizens of Nigeria”, he said. (NAN)
