Minister wants supportive work environment for skills development

Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology said that to exploit Nigeria’s natural and human resources, it was imperative to create a supportive work environment that encouraged skills development through STI.

The minister said this at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Technology and Innovation Expo on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, Science, Technology and Innovation(STI), can fastrack the socioeconomic development of the country.

Represented by Mrs Esuabana Nko-Asanye, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nnaji stressed that STI remained a prominent means to enable Nigeria take her rightful places in the comity of nations.

He expressed optimism that when the Revised Science, Technology and Innovation Policy was duly implemented, it would transform the STI ecosystem in the country.

He said the policy provided the right channel for re-orientation of citizens of the country.

“Technology expo provides an exceptional opportunity for the Organised Private Sector and Inventors to capitalise on the research outcomes.

” This would pave the way for wealth creation and empowerment opportunities for the vast population, ” the minister said.

The Permanent Secretary, Nko-Asanye in her earlier opening speech, remarked that the 2024 expo was reflective of the ministry’s efforts at developing a sustainable, inclusive and industrial economic growth of Nigeria.

Highlight of the closing ceremony was the awards to deserving expositors in different categories.

Accordingly, in the Research Institutions category, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi(FIIRO), won first position.

In the state ministry category, Cross River State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation carted away the first position with their project.

Winners in other categories were also announced.
